Summary
Anthropic’s Claude platform ran into a fresh service disruption on Monday, knocking parts of the company’s consumer-facing experience offline and leaving many users unable to access the chatbot normally. The company’s official status page said it began investigating “elevated errors” at 11:49 a.m. in London, and later updates described problems affecting Claude.ai, login and logout paths, and eventually some API methods as well.
For users, the outage appeared to hit the products they interact with most directly. TechCrunch reported that the disruption was affecting Claude.ai and Claude Code, with many users seeing failures while trying to sign in. Bloomberg, meanwhile, said the outage was severe enough that thousands of users reported problems through Downdetector.

One reason the outage drew extra attention is that Anthropic’s own messaging evolved as the incident unfolded. At 12:21 UTC, the company said it had identified the issue as being tied to Claude.ai and the login/logout paths, and that the Claude API was working as intended. But at 13:37 UTC, the status page was updated again to say that some API methods were not working and were under investigation. By 14:05 UTC, Anthropic said it was still working on a fix.
That sequence matters for businesses and developers, because the initial read suggested the consumer product was down while enterprise integrations remained intact. The later update made clear the picture was more complicated, even if the main visible pain point still appeared to be on the chatbot and sign-in side.
The company had not publicly explained the root cause in the updates available Monday afternoon. Bloomberg reported that the cause was not immediately clear, while Anthropic’s own incident notices focused on mitigation rather than explanation.
The outage also lands at a sensitive moment for Anthropic. TechCrunch noted that Claude had been seeing heightened public attention recently, including a surge that pushed the app to the top of the App Store charts over the weekend. That makes service reliability especially important, because outages during periods of rapid user growth can quickly turn momentum into frustration.
For now, the clearest picture is this: Claude’s web experience was disrupted, Claude Code was affected, login flows were unstable, and Anthropic’s own status updates later acknowledged that at least some API functionality was also impacted. Anthropic said it had identified the issue and was implementing a fix, but had not yet given users a detailed explanation or a full resolution timeline in the latest public updates reviewed for this story.
